How are urban wilderness projects perceived by the populace? Do users and residents accept the rededication of former park and recreational areas to such projects? Which measures need to be taken to raise the appreciation for urban wilderness projects?

These and other questions are raised by our accompanying research. We want to determine user profiles and find out in which way and to which extent the rewilded areas are serving residents and are becoming integrated in respect to people's outdoor activities. Repeated surveys will provide the necessary data for evaluation.

The Institute for Environmental Planning of the Leibniz University Hannover is acquiring data from detailed surveys, questionnaires, and personal interviews conducted in regular intervals in order to obtain longitudinal analyses for each of the projects in Hannover, Dessau-Roßlau, and Frankfurt and over the entire course of the project. The results will serve to adopt strategies for communicating the beneficial aims and values of urban rewilding and for reaching a larger acceptance and interest for urban wilderness projects.
